Laurel Keys Veteran Housing

The Way Home took possession of the property at 87 Laurel St., Manchester, NH in late 2010, following negotiations with the City of Manchester and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The existing building at 87 Laurel is unoccupied, uninhabitable, and in need of replacement.

In 2011, The Way Home secured HUD funding to operate Laurel Keys, the new building to be erected at 87 Laurel St., as permanent supportive housing for individual homeless military veterans. Also in 2011, The Way Home pursued and was awarded $287,500 in NH State Tax Credits by the NH Community Development Finance Authority, as well as over $300,000 in bridge and construction financing from the City of Manchester.

On November 9th, 2011, The Way Home officially broke ground on Laurel Keys. Among those at the ceremony were David Rothwell, a formerly homeless veteran who serves on The Way Home's Board; Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas; and David Schleyer and Newton Kershaw III, partners in Elm Grove Apartments, the first business to support Laurel Keys by pledging to purchase Tax Credits.

Left Picture: In 2007, this building located at 224 Spruce Street, Manchester, NH 03103 was an illegal 5 family dwelling.

Foreclosed on in 2008 and left empty, it was soon vandalized for the copper & aluminum within it and simply became a welcome mat for further illegal activity.

Right Picture: In 2009 The Way Home organization bought the house and land and made plans to rebuild and revitalize it.

Follow the progression from demolition to the brand new 3 family housing featuring 4 bedrooms per each apartment for larger families!

Stay tuned!!
